Westside School of Ballet Offers Training in Classical Ballet for All Ages and Levels of Dancers, from Pre-Ballet to Adult Students.
Westside School of Ballet is Los Angeles’ oldest and most successful public ballet school, founded in 1967 by New York City Ballet’s Yvonne Mounsey, and co-founder Rosemary Valaire, Royal Ballet soloist. The school’s alumni include some of ballet’s biggest names, such as New York City Ballet’s Tiler Peck, Andrew Veyette, and Jock Soto.
Under the direction of Artistic Director Martine Harley, Westside Ballet distinguishes itself as a non-audition school, offering the highest and most refined pre-professional training. While the program is designed with the serious ballet student in mind, the school welcomes all students ages 3-19 who wish to pursue the study of dance in an inspiring, enriched learning environment.
The newly-launched trainee program, directed by Westside alums Melissa Barak and Adrian Blake Mitchell, pairs students in the highest level with classes and performance opportunities at Los Angeles Ballet.
The non-profit performing division, Westside Ballet of Santa Monica, has produced professional-caliber performances twice a year since 1973—celebrating its 50th anniversary. The company’s Nutcracker with live orchestra is Los Angeles’ longest-running production. The acclaimed Spring Performances feature the works of George Balanchine along with classical and contemporary ballets and original pieces. Productions are presented at the beautiful The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage in Santa Monica.
These outstanding performance opportunities prepare aspiring young dancers, launching them into professional careers in ballet companies around the world. Moreover, all dance students are provided with invaluable life lessons in dedication, respect and commitment that serve them well in any career they choose.
Westside also offers adult ballet classes catering to all levels of experience and ability. If one wants to learn the basics, refine their technique, or dance for fun or for fitness—there is a class for everyone.
